World Environment Day – BEMS’ crucial role in the improvement of air quality

Today is World Environment Day and this year’s focus, led by the United Nations, is Air Pollution.

The subject of air pollution is now thankfully a priority in many spheres – political, business and social. The BEMS industry is ideally placed to help improve air quality in the working environment and reduce carbon emissions whilst improving operating efficiencies – all of which will improve the quality of life for individuals, communities and businesses.

Apart from ensuring thermal comfort a well-designed and maintained BEMS can ensure that ventilation systems provide the correct levels of fresh air and that filtration is working efficiently whilst raising alarms well ahead of any loss of comfort conditions should it begin to deteriorate.

A healthy clean air environment will help improve occupants productivity and reduce absence through illness and there are obvious costs benefits to this, aside from doing “the right thing” in taking good care of your employees.

As well as helping businesses look after their staff and in so doing operate more efficiently, it is imperative that our industry remains at forefront of the drive towards greater energy efficiency by ensuring that our systems operate in as an efficient way as possible hence reducing energy consumption and emissions.

Whether at home or work we can all play our part to reduce pollution and understanding how it affects our health and environment will help us take steps towards improving the air around us.
