World Environment Day

Today is World Environment Day, and this year’s theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” is a reminder of the growing impact that plastic waste, especially microplastics, is having on our planet.

These tiny particles are now found everywhere; in the air we breathe and the water we drink. And while we can’t stop microplastics at the source, at System Five we play an important role in helping limit their harm.

So what do we do?

We don’t make or install filters – but we monitor them. And that monitoring matters.

When air and water filters are working at their best, they’re incredibly effective at capturing microplastics before they reach people or the environment. Our job is to make sure they stay that way.

In the air:

We monitor filtration systems that use HEPA filters, which are designed to trap particles as small as 0.3 microns – including many airborne microplastics. Our monitoring helps ensure indoor air quality stays high and that the filters are doing their job.

In the water:

Advanced filtration systems, including those with membrane microfilters and activated carbon, can remove up to 99.9% of microplastics from drinking water. Again, we help monitor their performance and effectiveness, so water stays clean and safe.

Why it matters:

Monitoring produces data and reporting that allows our clients to take action before performance drops, enabling proactive maintenance and keeping systems running efficiently.

A smarter way to manage buildings:

Because our work is focused on Building Energy Management Systems, we help clients take a holistic approach to environmental health, optimising energy use and reducing exposure to pollutants like microplastics.

World Environment Day is a reminder to focus on this sometimes-overlooked aspect of pollution, and on the small but vital role we play in protecting people and the planet.
