System Five’s Project team was proud to have been selected by Beck Interiors, the award winning fit-out specialists to join the team who worked on the transformation of the Grade II listed Bow Street Magistrates Court and Police Station in the heart of Covent Garden into the chic, high-end luxury NoMad Hotel.
A CORNERSTONE OF BRITISH JUSTICE
The original Bow Street Magistrates Court, built in 1881, is famous worldwide for hosting defendants such as the Kray Twins, Dr Crippen and General Pinochet.
The team that transformed this infamous building worked with English Heritage, Westminster City Council and the Metropolitan Police to ensure that the traditions and spirit of Bow Street were preserved.
A COMPLETE BUILDING ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Our engineers designed and installed a BEMS based on a Trend Controls system for the hotel including IQVision, 6 MCCs, gas safety ventilation, interface to a Mitsubishi system, 4 electric meter networks and a high-level interface to AHUs.
At the core of the project is the sustainable re-use of the existing building. Achieving a BREEAM rating of Very Good, the project has implemented smart energy-saving systems, careful material selection and thermal upgrading.
A SENSITIVE TRANSFORMATION
This luxury hotel was designed by EPR Architects and in 2020 was the first Nomad group hotel to be opened outside the USA. The 91-room, 90,000sq ft, hotel has many original architectural features preserved and woven into its design. The transformation involved sensitive refurbishment of the existing buildings, adding new storeys and a new basement beneath part of the site, as well as façade retention of one elevation and construction of a new double winged structure within the original courtyard.

Following its huge success at the 2022 AHEAD Europe awards where it won 5 awards and Hotel of the Year, NoMad London went on to win the coveted Ultimate Accolade, Global Hotel of the Year.
Demonstrating the breadth and quality of 4energy groups work, System Five’s Service Team now provide a PPM service for the hotel as their incumbent Service and Maintenance provider which includes the highest level of response.
