This week we are happy to celebrate Museum Week as System Five are proud to have worked with many museums over the years.
We were a member of the team that helped create a new home for The Cartoon Museum in Fitzrovia, London whose collection preserves British cartoons, caricatures, animation and printed comics. Our engineers designed and installed a BEMS to control and monitor the museum’s mechanical ventilation plant and VRF. The imaginative design by Sam Jacob Studio included “smashed” walls to evoke the Looney Tunes’ favourite Coyote and Road Runner.
System Five were members of the team that worked on the fascinating year-long restoration project of Sandycombe Lodge, also known as Turner House, in West London which was built in the early 1800s to the designs of England’s great landscape painter, J.M.W. Turner for himself and his father to live in. Our engineers designed building controls to help preserve both the fabric of the building and collection of artworks as part of a project that was led by conservation architect Butler Hegarty Architects and Glevum Consulting.
System Five were proud to have worked with the world-renowned Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The museum is a Grade 1 listed building and has a floor area of approximately 85,000 m2 and plant rooms in over 300 locations. Our engineers worked closely with the museum’s Estate Department to maintain crucial systems that retain optimum temperatures and humidity to preserve their artefacts. Maximising energy performance is a priority for the museum who utilise intelligent ventilation and heating strategies without humidification or cooling plant to reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.
This is the 10th anniversary of Museum Week, which is an annual event that takes place online, with the goal of promoting museums and cultural institutions around the world. The celebration is supported by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization.
