4energy group is delighted to share the news that company Director, David Woodhams and his wife Natasha, are preparing to embark on the Camino de Santiago, which will see them undertake an 800km walk that encompasses a route through France and Spain.
The Camino de Santiago (or the Way of St. James) is a network of pilgrimages which were established in the 10th Century leading to the shrine of the apostle James in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in North-Western Spain.
There are a variety of possible routes, but the one Dave and Natasha have chosen will see them take approximately 1.2 million steps from start to finish.
Their challenge will begin in late September 2024 and take approximately 35 days to complete, during which they will have no access to the internet; checking in once a day on a simple handset and sending postcards by mail to keep supporters updated on their progress.
Considered by many to be a spiritual retreat from modern life, the challenge will also provide an opportunity for Dave and Natasha to shine a light on the children’s charity the NSPCC.
The aims of the charity, which was established over 140 years ago, are to help children who’ve been abused, protect children at risk, and find the best ways to prevent child abuse from ever happening.
Working across the UK, directly with children and families in national and regional hubs, the NSPCC also give support to thousands of children and young people through Childline, as well as running a helpline for any adult who is concerned about a child.
An important strand of the NSPCCs work is supporting children’s mental and emotional health and wellbeing and to that end there were almost 200,000 Childline counselling sessions conducted with children last year.
